Home Office Renovation | The Inspiration & Plans

After years of working on the road, we’re finally renovating what will soon be my new home office and I could not be more excited. I came to our designer explaining that my inspiration was somewhere between where Petit Trianon meets Bunny Mellon meets Emma meets Nancy Meyers, and she took those ideas and turned them into something truly special. Construction has officially commenced and, once complete, I’m not sure I’ll ever want to leave the space. Without further aideu, I invite you to scroll to see the full Molly Carr office inspiration.

Rattan Desk | Hummingbird Fabric | Petite Stripe Fabric | Preserved Boxwood Topiary | Italian Crystal Flush Mount | Antique French Mirror | Zinc Cloche | Glass Console | Antique Chinoiserie Chest (similar) | Rug | Versailles Fabric | Sconce | Lamp | Daybed | Coffee Table Book | Pin Board

The first piece we fell in love with was an antique chinoserie chest. Paired with the gorgeous Cole & Sons Hummingbird fabric (I’ve had the swatch set aside for nearly five years) and Gramercy sconces from Circa, the tone of the room had been set. As the overall feel of the room will be decidedly old-world, we decided for a more clean and minimal desk in a rattan that will serve as an organic compliment to the gold and antiques throughout the space.

I had originally wanted an antique daybed, but to ensure we have ample for guests we decided on this 18th-century inspired trundle bed that, most days, will serve as a cozy place to read and snuggle the pups. To give it the feeling of being more of a sofa than a bed, we’re covering it in throw pillows – two in the Hummingbird fabric to match the drapery, two in my favorite lilac floral Versailles fabric, and one long bolster in the lovely Brigitte stripe fabric from Schumacher.

For storage, this glass console will serve as a bookshelf to store office and styling supplies in my favorite seagrass baskets. We’ll style it with preserved topiaries, a zinc cloche to display my favorite antique finds, and coffee table books. We’ll bring in more lighting with this desk lamp and crystal flush mount and add a layer of warmth with this budget-friendly rug. Finally, we will tie it all together with an antique French Louis Phillippe mirror and a gold pin board.
