Last summer, during our trip to England we spent three days exploring the beautiful Devon coastline at Lympstone Manor. A historic grade II listed Georgian manor house overlooking the Exe Estuary, Lympstone Manor was opened by esteemed British chef Michael Caines and is truly a dream retreat in the English countryside.
We arrived during the only rainy day of our entire month in Europe and spent the first few hours drinking tea and reading by the fire. As the sky began to clear we headed outside for an afternoon high tea with the most delicious finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries overlooking the water below.
Afterward, it was time to check into our room – the Kingfisher Suite – which truly may have been the most beautiful hotel room I have ever stayed in! With a giant in-room bathtub framed by a massive ornate gilt mirror and golden chandelier, glorious estuary views, an original marble fireplace, and a plush bed and seating area, it was the perfect combination of modern luxury and classic English elegance.
Our days were spent strolling through Lympstone Manor’s beautiful property, reading in the garden, and exploring the nearby Jurassic Coast by bicycle. Every evening we would watch the sun set over the Exe Estuary with a glass of champagne, alternating between our lovely room and the manor’s wraparound terrace. On our last night we enjoyed the most splendid dinner at the hotel’s main restaurant, opting for an incredible eight-course tasting menu which featured fresh shellfish and seafood caught in the nearby sea – the perfect choice for me, given my pescetarian lifestyle.
We truly could not have enjoyed our time at Lympstone Manor any more and are already looking forward to the day that we can return. Whether you’re on holiday in England or looking for a luxurious getaway from London, Lympstone Manor is an absolute must!
