From the moment that Kimberly and I spoke on the phone, I just knew that fate had brought us together. We bonded over our love of animals (#adoptdontshop), our pescetarian lifestyles, our passion for the great outdoors, and our wedding venue – Hammersky Vineyards. You see, Kimberly and her fiancé Scott had fallen in love with the magical Hammersky long before they became engaged, just like my husband, Ryan, and I had two years earlier. Fast forward to a beautiful March day in their adopted hometown of Denver, Colorado, Scott dropped down on one knee during a scenic mountain hike and asked Kimberly to be his wife. That night, without having ever been to Paso Robles, California or having seen HammerSky in person, Kimberly & Scott booked the venue sight unseen, as they just knew in their hearts it was where they were meant to be wed.
On a sun-drenched October day, surrounded by Hammersky’s rolling hills and rows upon rows of grapevines in every autumnal hue imaginable, Kimberly & Scott proclaimed their love and commitment to one another in front of 38 of their closest friends and family. The entire wedding day was personal and intimate. From Kimberly’s wedding shoes, passed down by her beloved Grandmother, to the handkerchief in Scott’s pocket with a imprinted with a photo of his mother, to the vows that Kimberly and Scott wrote for one another – so beautiful and thoughtful, that I had to wipe the tears off my camera’s viewfinder (several times) in order to take the pictures. The day was electric, as if everyone who was in attendance was poignantly aware of the fact that they were witnessing true love in its purest form.
As the sun dipped behind the hillside, I snuck away for a few minutes of photos with Kimberly & Scott under Hammersky’s famed ancient oak tree – nicknamed Uncle Dan. Seeing the way that Scott looked at Kimberly, his eyes and heart absolutely overflowing with love, I was reminded once more of why I love my job. Moments like that are truly what I live for, and I truly cannot say how much of an honor it was to be invited by Kimberly & Scott to be a part of their special day. Thank you both for trusting me with the supreme honor of photographing your wedding day. I wish you both a lifetime of love, happiness, and of course, Hammersky wine!
“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.” – Pablo Neruda
