On a warm July morning, I met Hannah and Joel on the Ponte Santa Trinita bridge just as the sun was beginning to rise over Florence, Italy and the surrounding Tuscany countryside. The two were celebrating their five-year wedding anniversary and, serendipitously, won our Instagram giveaway. They traveled all the way from England to have their photos taken amongst the iconic landscapes of Firenze and it was such an honor to capture their warmth, joy, and love for one another on film. We truly could not have asked for a more beautiful morning. It felt like we had the city almost entirely to ourselves, and the cotton-candy sky and warm pastel tones of the Florentinian architecture made it feel like we had stepped into a painting.
The way the light seeped through the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge absolutely took my breath away. And I just love how Joel is looking at Hannah in this photo.
From there, we walked along the Arno river, stopping at the beautiful Corridoio Vasariano – a 16th century passageway – for a few quick photos.
Next we were off to the beautiful Santa Croce Basilica – an Italian Gothic masterpiece built in 1294.The piazza is usually filled with tourists, but this morning we had it almost entirely to ourselves. As a Florence film photographer, the light was an absolute dream!
