This past January, we spent nearly a month exploring Rajasthan. From the pink city of Jaipur to the azure shades of Jodhpur to the otherworldly Udaipur, each vibrant destination left a distinctive mark on our souls. However, it wasn’t until we traveled to the bucolic countryside during our week with Aman India that we could really allow our memories and experiences to sink in. Our Aman journey began with a rural retreat at Amanbagh and concluded with a once-in-a-lifetime Bengal tiger safari with Aman-i-Khas, and each day somehow felt more beautiful than the last. Keep scrolling for more of the story, as seen through the lens of my antique 35mm film camera (and a few iPhone, too).
Nestled amongst ancient forts, palm groves, and hillsides where Bengal Tigers roam wild, Amanbagh is an Aman India property that beautifully celebrates Indian culture, design, and wellness. Once the staging area for royal tiger hunts, today the rose-hued cupolas and vaulted entrances of the resort’s Mughal-inspired structures soar from the greenery–utterly peaceful and consummately private. From Ayurvedic massages to watching baby monkeys play on our terrace to sunrise yoga in a fifteenth century temple to afternoon drives through the bucolic countryside, every bit of our time at Amanbagh felt like a dream.
On our forth morning, we awoke at dawn and drove through the countryside to our next Aman India destination. The domain of the Bengal tiger, India’s Ranthambore makes for an otherworldly safari destination with majestic landscapes dotted with ancient stone palaces and forts. We spent three incredible days at the Aman-i-Khas tented camp, and from start to finish our experience could not have been more perfect.
Situated on the threshold of the Ranthambore reserve, the Aman-i-Khas intimate tented camp offers incomparable privacy. Our days were spent on game drives where we spotted Bengal tigers, monkeys, gazelle, peacocks, and more. Back at the tented camp (which is 100% sustainable and off-the-grid) we played board games, enjoyed treatments in the Ayurvedic spa tent, relaxed in our beautiful tent, and ate the most incredible cuisine, nearly all of which is grown in the Aman’s on-site garden. On our last day we took a safari on Marwari horses and were surprised to find a gorgeous private breakfast awaiting us in the wilds. Everything about our week with Aman India was a dream come true and we couldn’t highly recommend it enough!
